The desired AmericanCollieis an elegant, proud, attentive, expressivedog.His powerfulbuild iswell-balanced, withstrong bone structure anda well-formed, not too wide and not massive lookingwedge-shaped head, with parallel alignmentofforehead andmuzzle lie, divided by a slightstop; with ears carried about three-quarters erect and with about one-fourth at the tip, tipping or breaking forward. The eyes are expressive and almond-shaped. The bodyproportions arewell balanced and with each other harmoniously,thelegs aremuscular withcorrect angulationsand an energetic movement. Despite the abundantcoat, the body shape is well recognizable. The coat is very abundant at the mane and frill, which gives the Collie’sunique appearance. The coat is comparatively easy to care anddirt-repellent. Besides the Rough Collie, theSmooth Collie exists which has a short coat. According to the American Breed Standard the bitches are from 22 to 24 inches (56 - 61 cm), weighing from 50 to 65 pounds (23 - 29kg) anddogs are from 24 to 26 inches (61 - 66cm), weighing from 60 to 75 pounds (27 - 34 kg).
